IP Based Video Conferencing
IP based video conferencing is conferencing across computer networks. IP video conferencing is only possible across networks with sufficient capacity or bandwidth available for the conference.
ISDN Video Conferencing
ISDN is a dial up service, being dial-up it is used in much the same way as a normal telephone line. It is simply a matter of dialling the number of the far-end; a direct link is then established for the duration of the call.
Both users must have compatible ISDN lines installed and have ISDN compatible video conferencing equipment. Because a direct dedicated link is established between users for the duration of the call their systems can use the full capacity available. ISDN is currently a reliable option for video conferencing.
Satellite Video Conferencing
Satellite videoconferencing helps break down geographic barriers to reach a large audience and receive immediate reaction from participants. It is an economical alternative or addition to traditional classroom presentations.
A video conference via satellite delivers one-way live television from an origination point, called an “uplink” to a satellite which sends the signal to receiving satellite dishes, or “downlinks.”
Videoconferences may contain taped material, live presentations or a combination. Telephone connections are used to allow viewers to interact with presenters during the conference. Many videoconferences also include on-site programs giving participants the opportunity to take part in interactive sessions at the viewing facility before and after the videoconference.
